In 2010, Juniper undertook the first exploration of the enigmatic Kanasar Lake, nestled at 4350m in the depths of Western Garhwal. Among the mysteries surrounding this remote lake was its name.

We knew Kana means "blind" and Sar translates to "lake," but the connection wasn’t immediately clear. Perched above the sprawling, kilometer-long lake, we began to notice its peculiar resemblance to an eye. Intriguingly, two small islands in the water mirrored black dots evoking the image of a blind eye.

At that moment, the origin of Kanasar’s name seemed revealed, adding a layer of wonder to this mesmerizing location.

In 2023, while trekking the Trans Bhutan Trail, we arrived at Punakha, eager to witness the iconic Punakha Dzong. To reach this architectural marvel, we crossed the Mo Chhu River over a historic cantilever bridge.

The original bridge was swept away in 1968 by a powerful surge of water, but it was rebuilt with incredible craftsmanship entirely of local wood, without any visible steel. This classic Himalayan design stands as a testament to Bhutan's unwavering dedication to preserving its heritage.

A journey through Punakha is not just about seeing the sights but it’s about experiencing a nation’s soul.✨

At an altitude of 4300m, Maldaru Lake lies nestled east of the Harkidun Valley in Western Garhwal, a region steeped in mystery and sacred belief. Locals believe that a prayer offered at the lake is never left unanswered.

When Juniper first explored the lake in 2009, the team made the conscious decision not to camp at its shores, out of respect. But as we descended, an intriguing sound reached our ears, the sound of water, far below their feet. To their astonishment, water from the lake was flowing through an underground channel, emerging several kilometers away.

A hidden wonder beneath the surface, waiting to be discovered. 🌊✨
