An animal should never have to carry the weight of our trip.

We recently re-visited the experiences we do in India and asked ourselves a simple question:

Where do we draw a line when it comes to responsible tourism?

At The Folk Tales | India Tours we do not offer animal rides for entertainment, bullock-cart safaris, activities that involve children and compromise their natural development, and displacement of any native communities.

This isn’t about judging a tourist or a community. It is about whether unchecked tourism creates a different scale of demand.

It is about doing every experience, but a bit more consciously. Experiences that give back.

Save this post and tell us what you think of it in comments. Would you choose a more conscious trip to India?

On World Handloom Day we celebrate the art and the people behind these textiles. Be it the Eri Silk of North East India or the Banarasi Silk from Varanasi, they are living traditions kept alive by skilled artisans.

Supporting the artisans on a custom India tour is the simplest way to enhance your India experience and travel responsibly.

🇮🇳 India can be the Taj Mahal, Jaipur’s palaces and Varanasi’s ghats - and it can also be a walking tour in the Himalayas, watching Indian perfumery at work, meeting the Changpa nomads in Ladakh, or walking to the living root bridges of Meghalaya.

If you are wondering what to put in your India bucket list, you don’t have to compromise. A well-planned tailor-made India tour can combine the country’s iconic landmarks with meaningful cultural experiences in India, village life, wildlife, festivals and landscapes that most visitors never see.

Save this bucket list for your India plans.

🇮🇳 What is India really like for a foreign tourist? Honestly, it is difficult to predict.

One minute you are walking through a quiet heritage site, the next you are surrounded by a festival, a wedding procession, street food, music, colours - or something you simply did not expect.

That’s what makes India travel experiences so different. You can plan the route but you can’t plan every moment.

If you are wondering what unexpected things you might see in India or what makes travelling here different, come with curiosity rather than a rigid checklist.

❔ What is the most unexpected thing you have seen while travelling in India? Tell us below.

Most tours make Humayun Tomb just a photo stop.

But its architecture and stories deserve a greater expression - from its ‘Mughal Sarai’ (the guest house for travellers) to the octagonal tomb of Isa Khan (an Afghan noble).

With The Folk Tales | India Tours it’s not just another monument but a doorway that opens into India’s medieval heritage - which makes your India tour rewarding.

🧘🏻‍♀️ I needed a ‘Monument Detox’, said one of our clients who had visited India before and came for the second time with us.

Immersive activities such as yoga with a practitioner, a craft workshop, a culinary class, or a visit to a village community enhances your experience of India beyond its monuments.

It takes you closer to its people.
