Asia's largest animal fair takes place in Sonepur which stay in the northern Indian state of Bihar. Sonepur located on the convergence of holy rivers Ganga and Gandak is revered as a blessed piece of land. Sonepur Fair is held on the full moon day of the month of Karthik which falls in November as per the English calendar as this day is considered to be very prosperous by the Hindus. From local folklore it is believed that the Hariharnath temple have been originally built by Lord Rama, on his way to the court of King Janak to win the hand of his daughter princess Sita. The fair continues for about fifteen days to one month.
