Lodi Garden Heritage Walks Lodi Garden is one of Delhi’s most beautiful and popular parks. Here monuments are located amidst landscaped gardens.

The most prominent are the 15th and 16th century tombs and a beautifully decorated mosque. There are smaller structures belonging to the late-Mughal period as well.

A heritage walk in the beautifully landscaped and well laid garden in the heart of the city. The main attractions are the monuments belonging to the Sayyid and Lodi dynasties of medieval Delhi. The garden is a creation of the British who cleared the village which stood here & converted the area into a public park where the monuments stood out as objects of beauty. The walk includes royal tombs like that of Mohd Shah Sayyid & Sikandar Lodi, the very impressive Bada Gumbad & Shish Gumbad & some smaller remains like Athpula (a bridge) & a standalone turret & a couple of Mughal buildings in a garden.

Join us this Saturday evening for a heritage walk to Lodi Garden, one of the best landscaped gardens in the city. Popular with joggers, families on picnic, those who would like to tuck in a corner with a book, birdwatchers, or those looking for a bit of romance :) We will concentrate on the history of the garden, its evolution from a being a bunch of medieval tombs, to a small village Khairpur, to an English garden called Lady Willingdon Park. The heritage trail covers Mohd Shah Sayyid's tomb, Bara Gumbad, Sis Gumbad, Sikander Lodi's tomb, Athpula and a couple of late Mughal buildings.

Homebound with a bad cold this weekend, I am devouring my kindle. This morning, I clicked on City of Djinns: A Year in Delhi, by William Dalrymple, a book I’ve been meaning to read since moving here. The first line hooked me: “It was in the citadel of Feroz Shah Kotla that I met my first Sufi.”

Join us for a heritage trail to Lodi Garden. Formerly the Lady Willingdon Park, created by the British, it is one of the best landscaped parks in Delhi. Named after the lady who drove Lutyens nuts with her innovation to Viceregal Palace & New Delhi, Lodi Garden is a post independence name. The park has wonderful examples of Lodi & Sayyid architecture.
