Our international Tons Expedition team reached Camp Bagi, perched above pristine valleys and the wild frontiers of the Govind Vihar Sanctuary.

It’s a rare Himalayan pause... terraced villages, deodar forests and a silence that feels ancient, offering perspective before the river’s most technical stretch.

As the team prepares for tomorrow’s crux section, tonight is about steady breath, warm tents and the shared anticipation of world-class whitewater ahead. Uttarakhand’s landscapes continue to set the stage — powerful, welcoming and unmistakably unforgettable.

Yesterday, the team descended into the Middle Tons, tackling a 15 km stretch from to a small mountain school perched above the river.

The water here is relentless— Grade IV and IV+ rapids, stacked one after another, demanding precision, teamwork and constant focus. The kind of whitewater that reminds you why the is whispered about in adventure circles around the world.

Today, the team is prepared to enter the crux of the Tons River, a concentrated 5 km corridor featuring a series of technical Class IV and IV+ rapids. This segment is considered one of the most challenging and rewarding stretches of whitewater in the Indian Himalaya.

Every industry eventually reaches a crossroads — trekking in India is standing at one right now.

As the mountains fill and the wilderness thins, this article captures a voice that has seen three decades of change and still believes in small groups, true journeys, and the dignity of the trail.

Curious what you think.

Before paddling into one of India’s remotest white-water corridors, our international expedition team stopped at Hanol’s Mahasu Devta Temple, often called the Fifth Dham of Uttarakhand.

Close to 1,000 years old, the temple blends Nagara stone architecture with traditional Himalayan woodwork, and holds legends reaching back to the Mahabharata. The Pandavas are believed to have passed this very route; the giant Bheem’s Kanchas nearby still challenge visitors with their mythical weight.

From ancient fairs to silver palanquins, the temple remains a living cultural archive, dedicated to Mahasu Devta, the protector deity of these mountains.

Here, in this quiet sanctum, we paused for blessings—

As the Tons expedition prepares to enter more technical sections of the Tons River, today was dedicated to essential white-water training.

Our international team learned core rescue skills, including self-rescue techniques, safe floating positions, how to operate a rescue throw bag, and the steps involved in a kayak-based rescue.

This hands-on session ensures that every participant understands river dynamics and is equipped to navigate one of India’s premier white-water destinations with confidence and respect.

Supported by Uttarakhand Tourism, the Tons Expedition showcases Uttarakhand’s commitment to world-class adventure tourism and safety standards.

The Tons Expedition… just warming up.

Our international team hit the Tons today—big water, cold spray, wild bends and a valley that feels almost untouched.

From Mori to Khunigaad every rapid felt like a new chapter.

And by dusk, Lunagad revealed a secret pool quiet enough to make even the most seasoned travellers pause.

This is the Uttarakhand the world deserves to see—raw, remote, unforgettable.

The Tons Expedition… just warming up.

If you miss the days when adventure wasn’t served pre-packaged, Sko Valley is a return to first principles.

A place where silence has heft, horizons keep their secrets and every bend feels like a line from a story you once meant to finish.

What’s one trek you still think about years later?
Sko is right up there with the ones that stay with you.

This July, explore Ladakh through five unforgettable adventures — from the cultural trails of Sham Valley and the hidden wilderness of Matho Phu to the iconic Markha Valley, the dramatic crossing of Parang La, and the summit challenge of Kang Yatse II. Every trail offers a different side of the high Himalayas.

📍 Sham Valley Trek — Jul 03–08
📍 Matho Phu Trek — Jul 09–16
📍 Markha Valley Trek — Jul 17–24
📍 Parang La Trek — Jul 17 – Aug 01
📍 Kang Yatse II Climb — Jul 27 – Aug 07

For anyone who’s said “I need a break” and actually meant “take me somewhere ridiculous.”

Parang La does that — the silence of Spiti, the long clean lines of the high desert, the slow climb to 5,500m where everything unnecessary falls away.

It’s a route we only run with our senior team and the guides who know how to make a hard crossing feel graceful.
