Join us on a magical river boat cruise led by and through the backwaters 8-15 November, 2025! Ibex Expeditions organises boat journeys on the , , and is now delighted to offer this experience through Kerala’s backwaters. This boat has 10 beautifully appointed cabins for 20 people and has been chartered by us.

The Kerala backwaters are a network of lagoons and canals lying parallel to the Arabian Sea of the Malabar coast in southwestern India. A network of lakes and rivers forms a labyrinthine system with more than 900 km (560 mi) of waterways.

The Kerala people are industrious, and artisanal workshops abound. Boatyards provide an insight into traditional craftsmanship and the joy of exploring the backwaters is seeing Keralan life first-hand. Terns, kingfishers, darters and cormorants thrive whilst otters and turtles can be spotted along the verdant banks lined by lush palm trees and leafy vegetation.

On May 24th, 2025, explorers, climbers, adventurers Mandip Singh Soin and (Edmund Stump) will present humor, natural history, personal anecdotes and lessons from lifetimes exploring the globe — from the Arctic to the Antarctic and countless places in between.

On May 25th, 2025, Mandip will be a panelist along with , , Pem Dorjee Sherpa, and . Join these modern-day explorers to discuss the current state of the mountaineering industry, impacts of tourism, strategies for promoting sustainability and the challenges posed by overcrowding on popular peaks and destinations. The conversation will also highlight how women in mountaineering are breaking barriers and reshaping the industry with fresh perspectives and leadership.

Over the years, Ibex Expeditions has been the tour host for Mountainfilm in India. This summer, we’re excited to make it to the main show in Telluride—a weekend saturated with epic and inspiring movies, talks, ideas, and people. Between 29th September and 2nd October 2017, climbers , and .astorga made a first ascent of the south west face of Nilakantha(6,597m) in India’s Garhwal Himalaya.

The mountain towers dramatically over the valley of the Alaknanda river, and has been described as “second only to Siniolchu in Himalayan beauty” by the legendary Frank Smythe.

In Anne’s own words, “The climb was amazing for our team. We climbed a very technical 1,300m route on the Southwest Face of Nilkantha. We made the first ascent of the face. We summited on the morning of the 5th day and were back down to our ABC 15hrs later. Everyone was healthy and happy.”
