This July, we will embark on our Trans-Himalayan Overland Safari — from Srinagar through Drass, Kargil, Suru Valley and Zanskar, crossing the newly opened Shingo La route before descending into Manali.

Most travelers associate this region with monks and monasteries. But for those willing to venture deeper, this high-altitude desert reveals a far richer story. The lesser-explored regions — Drass, Kargil, Suru Valley, and Zanskar Valley — offer an extraordinary blend of raw wilderness and cultural depth.

Here, alpine lakes shimmer beneath towering snow-capped peaks, powerful rivers carve through dramatic terrain, and rare wildlife moves silently across vast, relatively untouched landscapes.

We celebrate World Penguin Day and the importance of protecting these seabirds. The date coincides with the northward migration of Adélie penguins, one of the seven species you can encounter. As winter approaches, Adélie penguins leave their coastal breeding colonies and migrate northward into the Southern Ocean’s pack ice, where they spend the season feeding and navigating the ever-changing icy environment.

Of the 18 penguin species worldwide, seven can be spotted in the Antarctic Peninsula and the subantarctic islands: Adélie, Chinstrap, Gentoo, Macaroni, Southern Rockhopper, King, and Magellanic. Each of them has specific behaviors, offering a fascinating wildlife experience. by
