Musamman Burj, or Shah Burj, is a stunning octagonal marble tower in Agra Fort, built by Emperor Shah Jahan (1631–1640) for Mumtaz Mahal, replacing Akbar's earlier palace. Overlooking the Taj Mahal across the Yamuna, it features exquisite pietra dura inlays, marble lattices, jharokha balconies, chhajja eaves, and a gilded dome. Shah Jahan lived out his final captive years here under Aurangzeb (1658–1666), gazing at his beloved Taj. Its special allure lies in Shah Jahani craftsmanship blending romance, luxury, and tragedy—one of Agra's most poignant vistas.

Orchha, nestled on the banks of the Betwa River in Madhya Pradesh, is a historic town founded in 1531 by the Bundela Rajput ruler Rudra Pratap Singh. It served as the capital of the Orchha princely state until 1783. Surrounded by dense forests that once made it nearly impregnable, it is renowned for its architectural marvels. One such marvels is Jahangir Mahal a part of Orchha Fort. It is a 17th-century palace in honor Mughal Emperor Jahangir during his visit. Its Indo-Islamic architecture blends Rajput and Mughal styles, featuring grand domes, chhatris, ornate balconies, and turquoise-tiled walls, with large courtyards and intricate stone carvings.

We seriously feel Agra is not just a half-day destination. Apart from the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort it has many other interesting monuments to showcase. Itmad-ud-Daulah Tomb is one of them.

Commissioned by Begam Nur Jahan the wife of Jahangir in 1622 in memory of her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg one of the high officials in the Mughal court, who had been given the title of Itimâd-ud-Daulah (pillar of the state). Primarily built in red sandstone and marble, this monument also elegantly displays Pietra-dura work. The Itmad-ud-Daulah is considered one of the forerunners of the Taj Mahal which is considered as the zenith of Pietra-dura word.
