Ranakpur Jain Temple
, also known as Chaturmukha Dharana Vihara, is a 15th-century architectural masterpiece located in the Aravalli Hills of Rajasthan. Dedicated to Lord Adinath (the first Jain Tirthankara), it is renowned globally for its intricate white marble carvings and unique structural design.
Key Architectural Features
The 1,444 Pillars: The temple is famous for having 1,444 exquisitely carved marble pillars, and remarkably, no two pillars are identical in their design.
Symmetry & Light: Despite the dense forest of pillars, the design ensures the main idol of Lord Adinath is visible from any corner of the temple. The structure uses natural light to illuminate its 29 halls and 80 domes.
Chaumukha Design: The main shrine features a "four-faced" (Chaumukha) idol of Adinath, symbolizing his conquest of the four cardinal directions.
Intricate Idols: A notable highlight is a single-slab marble carving of Parshvanatha, featuring 1,008 snake heads and intricately intertwined tails.
