Our Story

Lockhart Farm Tourism started on 22nd January 2014 with an aim of utilizing the existing resources and generating employment opportunities to the dependents of the Estate workers. Generally tourism activities have led to damages to the environment but to have a tourism business model which preserves nature, allows people to be in natural environment and at the same time educate them is the way forward. Along with promotion of tourism, 'Farm Tourism' also helps to maintain the balance of the nature by giving importance to the natural resources. Among the growing sectors in Tourism, Farm Tourism can be considered to be the best among the five types of rural tourism. The other types are ecotourism, adventure, cultural and activity tourism. Farm tourism is also known as agrotourism or agritourism. Any agriculture based activity, which attracts tourists can be termed as farm tourism. Apart from direct employment, lots of local tourist guides are getting benefited. Those who are visiting the farm will be getting an opportunity to spend their valuable moments here. What makes a farm stay different is nothing but the serene ambiance here. A healthy walk through the farm itself is a way to rejuvenate yourself. Everything will be natural here. You will not have to set alarm clocks to wake up in the morning, the nature itself will help you to get out of your sleep. A farm stay is also a treat for your taste buds. LOCKHART FARM TOURISM INVOLVES:-

Plantation Walk: - Plantation walk is a one day tour. Those who are coming to Munnar can opt for this activity. This will have maximum of 3 hours walk through Tea plantation and interacting with Tea Pluckers and learn local culture of the people. Moreover this walk will give more health benefits to the guest in the form of breathing pure oxygen, attaining physical fitness and have peace of mind.

Factory Tour & Tea Museum: -This is an another day tour where one can have an experienced tea tour by the way visiting the plant and learn and taste the making of different grades of Tea such as Black, Green and White Tea. Along with that, the guest can learn about the health benefits of Tea also.

Tea Museum provides a heritage experience in the way of how the Tea Plantation started its journey from 1857 and how the people managed, the tools and machineries they used.

Farm Stay:- Lockhart farm stay is like a village tour where families can live, work and enjoy an authentic rural farm experience. Spending more time down on the farm provides not only a relaxing experience, but many health benefits too. Learn about farm vacations, farm camps, and pick-your-own experiences that allow you to get your city hands dirty. And also it teaches one the survival of life in wild.

Make your Own Tea:-Make your own tea programme is a new innovation introduced by

Lockhart Estate and the Factory in Munnar. The objective of this unique programme is to give the tea lovers all around the world a unique experience of producing a tea by their own hands.

This programme provides an opportunity for participants to acquire first hand experience on the manufacture of orthodox black tea from picking of green leaf in the field up to the packing of their own manufactured tea. They will be engaged on selective plucking of suitable green leaf for making of black tea, spreading in the troughs for the next step(withering)of tea manufacture ,involved on rolling of the withered leaf, breaking of rolled leaf and do the oxidation, drying of the wet dhools, sieving of dried tea leaf to make the grade.

They will taste their own manufactured tea and learn how to do a tasting of the tea sample in the correct technical way. All participants will be presented with their own pack of tea under their name to proudly enjoy with the family, friends and colleagues in their own country.

Apart from the above activities, Bird Watching, Tea Garden Cycling, Creative Corner such as Mahanadi, Tattoo, Nail art etc using Tea oil, adventure riding etc are also being done.
