Etawah city is situated in the southern west part of the Uttar Pradesh and is well-connected with all the neighbouring cities by rail and road as National Highway No.2 Passes through the heart of city and railway station of Etawah is situated on Delhi-Howrah rail route. Residents of Etawah actively took part in great Revolt of 1857 as city was witnessing great disturbances throughout its region. A

t the time of revolt of 1857 Allan Octavian Hume was the collector of Etawah. Hume was the person who was behind setting up of the Indian National Congress. In the 19th century Etawah was a full fledge city as said by a British painter William Hodges when he visited the city he found city very big and crowded as it was the trade and commerce centre of the region, main goods of trade were ghee, agricultural products like wheat, barley, mustard oil seed etc. As the time passed city started losing its status of commercial supremacy to near by cities like Kanpur. As it is the only city in its 100 kms radius with such a good connectivity to the neighbouring towns and cities like Agra, Kanpur, Gwalior etc and the city also have well developed markets like Bajaja line, Naurangabad, New Harsh Nagar etc. due to all this folks from nearby regions regularly visit the markets of city to do daily or special purpose shopping, which makes it a strategic location for small enterprises. At present one supermarket is under construction at the site Of New Hind Cinema and another one is in last phases of planning. The city is politically very much active as it has given 3 times Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav and huge political figures of various ideologies keep on visiting the city like Prakash Karat (CPI), Uma Bharati (BJP), Mayawati (BSP), Rajnath Singh (BJP), Rahul Gandhi etc. Southern part of Etawah is bordered by river Yamuna which gives a mystique view at dawn and has inspired various painters and poets to sketch it out by brush and by pen. The famous British painter William Hodges has also painted the river Yamuna with it rough ravines in his paintings. The River Yamuna at Etawah seems to be completely untouched as it flows in very slow rhythm with various creatures playing at its banks.
