Stakeholders Consultative Meeting on Integrated Online Permit System

Sikkim United Tourism Organisation (SUTO), led by President Shri Ganesh Shivakoty, along with Chief Advisor Shri Phetuk Tshering Bhutia, Senior Advisor Shri Phurba Tshering Bhutia and team, participated in the Stakeholders Consultative Meeting on the proposed Integrated Online Permit System for Restricted and Protected Areas, chaired by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang and attended by Cabinet Ministers and tourism stakeholders.

The proposed system is presently at the consultation and discussion stage and has not yet been implemented. The consultation focused on strengthening transparency, efficiency and accountability in the permit process while safeguarding the interests of Sikkim’s tourism sector and its people.

The initiative aims to address revenue leakage, ensure that legitimate tourism revenue accrues to the State, reduce unnecessary intermediaries and simplify the permit process for visitors and Sikkim-registered tour and travel operators.

SUTO and participating stakeholders shared valuable insights, concerns and suggestions on the proposed framework. The Government has reiterated its commitment to participatory governance, local participation and a transparent, accountable and sustainable tourism system that ensures the benefits of Sikkim’s tourism economy meaningfully reach its people.

The consultation was constructive and will contribute towards further examining and refining the proposed system in the larger public interest.

The Sikkim United Tourism Organisation (SUTO), represented by President Shri Ganesh Shivakoty and Secretary Shri Nevid Gautam, participated in the First Stakeholder Consultative Meeting on the AI-powered Online Permit System organised by the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim, at Paryatan Bhawan, Gangtok.

The meeting was chaired by Hon’ble Minister for Tourism & Civil Aviation Shri T.T. Bhutia in the presence of Hon’ble Advisor Shri Sudesh Kumar S***a, bringing together senior government officials, tourism associations, transport organisations and other stakeholders.

In his address, Shri T.T. Bhutia underscored the importance of close collaboration between the Department and tourism stakeholders in strengthening Sikkim’s tourism sector. He highlighted the Government’s vision of creating a transparent, efficient and technology-driven permit system to improve the ease of doing business while safeguarding the interests of local tourism operators.

Earlier, Secretary Ms Hondala Gyaltsen stated that the initiative was developed following extensive consultations with tourism stakeholders to simplify the existing permit process and encouraged continued cooperation and constructive feedback for its successful implementation.

Commissioner-cum-Secretary Shri Raj Yadav presented the key features of the AI-powered Online Permit System, highlighting its end-to-end digital workflow, online services, integration with government databases, improved transparency, accountability and streamlined coordination among all concerned departments.

SUTO wholeheartedly welcomed the Department’s forward-looking initiative and appreciated its commitment to modernising Sikkim’s tourism administration through technology. The organisation believes that embracing digital innovation is the way forward for the tourism sector and that such reforms will create a more transparent, efficient and sustainable ecosystem, benefiting Sikkimese tourism stakeholders in the long run.

SUTO reaffirmed its full support to the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department in implementing these progressive reforms and remains committed to working together in building a stronger, smarter and more competitive tourism industry for Sikkim.

From his record-shattering Project Possible—scaling all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks in just over six months—to leading the historic first winter ascent of K2, Nims Dai proved to the world that with discipline, humility, and determination, no dream is out of reach. Beyond his personal achievements, he consistently advocated for Nepalese high-altitude climbers and risked his life on multiple high-altitude rescue missions to save others.

The Sikkim United Tourism Organisation (SUTO) extends its heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends, and the entire adventure community during this heartbreaking time.

May his legacy continue to inspire generations of mountain lovers and adventurers worldwide. Rest in peace, Nims Dai.
