Old Silk Route, Zuluk Wins ‘Most Scenic Route in India’ Award
The Old Silk Route in Zuluk, Sikkim, has been awarded the prestigious ‘Most Scenic Route in India’ title by the India Today Tourism Survey and Awards 2025. Known for its breathtaking landscapes, winding roads, and stunning views of the Eastern Himalayas, this historic route has once again captured national recognition.
The award was presented during the India Today Travel Awards Ceremony held at The Oberoi Hotel, New Delhi, where leaders from the travel and tourism industry gathered to celebrate the country’s finest destinations. The Union Minister for Tourism & Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, presented the accolade to the Tourism & Civil Aviation Minister of Sikkim, Tshering T. Bhutia. He was accompanied by Principal Secretary of the department, C.S. Rao (IFS), to receive the award on behalf of the state.
Zuluk, situated at an altitude of 10,100 feet, is a key attraction along the legendary Silk Route, which once served as a vital trade link across Asia. Today, it is a sought-after high-altitude destination, offering spectacular views of Mount Kanchenjunga and the famous Zig Zag Road with its 32 hairpin bends, providing an unforgettable experience for visitors.
