An emergency meeting was called by the Tourism Stake holders of Sikkim at Tourism Information at 6 PM today owing to the concern arising after the earthquake that hit Nepal and neighbouring areas today at about 11.30. Several phone calls from the relatives and friends were received from India and abroad enquiring the status of tourist who are in Sikkim. The meeting was attended by The Travel Agents’ Association of Sikkim (TAAS), Sikkim Hotel & Restaurant Association (SH&RA) and Sikkim Association of Adventure Tour Operators (SAATO). A swift exercise was made to collect & update the information about the Guest’s who are presently touring in respective tourist destinations of Sikkim. Though there were a tremor that was felt in Sikkim too, the road condition is Sikkim stable and the National Highway that connect Sikkim with the rest of the Country is open and clear. The guest visiting one of the pristine but remote parts of North Sikkim was the trekkers presently on Green Lake trek were also contacted, all tourist in Sikkim are Safe. The Tourism Stake holders of Sikkim share a strong friendship with Nepal especially with the International Tourism Circuit that both Nepal and Sikkim share & organise a common tour itinerary for both Buddhist and Hindu pilgrimage Tourism in the Himalayas. The Tourism Stake holders of Sikkim would like to thank everyone who expressed their concern by enquiring us about their friends and relatives presently travelling in Sikkim. We would also like to inform everyone that that all tourist presently touring in Sikkim are safe and the road connectivity all over Sikkim including the National Highway is open that connects with rest of The Republic of India.
The meeting offered the prayers to the departed souls of the Earthquake victims. Here in Sikkim, we are thinking so much of the people of Nepal as you have experienced the terrible Earthquake and all its consequences, we all in Sikkim pray to God to give you the strength to withstand the loss of Life and also pray for the courage you shall receive from the Almighty to overcome all the suffering of today’s natural calamity.
