THULO KHOLA IS A BOTTLE NECK
Heavy snowfall blocks the Tsomgo-Nathula Tourist circuit. Despite the ice clearing machine stationed at Tsomgo-Sherathang road, vehicles are barred from plying above Thulo Khola. Rivulets running down from the hill get frozen, piling up with heavy ice sleet. I went to check the road condition last year to see if anything can be done to prevent the closure of the road in such situations, the bridge is the only answer.
Tsomgo-Nathula is an important tourist destination, with the arrival of the snow season, tourists flock to Gangtok from and around 500 km radius cities and towns. At present, daily wage earners are deputed to clear the ice and sleet with the help of salt and a spade. I gave a try, and it is very hard to cut the sleet. People and the vehicles sleep off.

PARUHANG SAPTEN MANKHIM
9 km from M.G.Marg, Gangtok, at Rai Gaon, Ranka-Paruhang Sapten Mankhim is an important cultural site for the Kirat Rai Community. It is a traditional assembly and prayer center where they pay homage to their deities and ancestors.
Centre has a library with over 3000 books related to the Rai Community, an Amphitheater, and statues and murals of Rai deities and legends. Visitors can explore the traditional setup at the Mankhim. At the hill top there are statues of Paruhang and Sumnima. The place offers a majestic view of the sprawling Gangtok.

Sunset seen from Ganesh Tok during November. Most parts of Sikkim are decorated with prayer flags in riots of colour. It is a beautiful sight to see. Each prayer flag contains mantras that thwart the evils and these flags blend with the nature so well. During the month of February-March, Rhododendron Arboreum, locally known as Laliguras are the first of the species to start blooming. As the season changes and the altitude rises, the rest of the 38 species found in Sikkim blooms till the very early September and by this time the elevation would have reached astonishing height of 15,000 feet. At this height, the plant size decreases to a dwarf and the flowers are tiny.

Gangtok Map produced and launched.
