The Travel Agents Association of Sikkim (TAAS) extends its heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to the bereaved family of Ashal Rai, a dedicated mountaineer from Sikkim and instructor at the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism (IHCAE), Namchi, who tragically lost his life during an expedition to Nun Kun in Ladakh. Ashal Rai was part of a 15-member team undertaking the challenging ascent.
According to sources, he passed away during the climb on July 15. Two other mountaineers from Sikkim were also part of the expedition. Authorities from IHCAE have confirmed the unfortunate news, and efforts are currently underway to bring his body back to Sikkim.
A resident of Lower Chemchey, Ashal Rai was widely respected in the adventure community for his unwavering dedication to mountaineering and his tireless work in mentoring and inspiring young climbers.
His passing is a profound loss to the mountaineering fraternity, the people of Sikkim, and the entire adventure tourism community. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace.
