Tourist Guide and Adventure Tourism Training Programme Begins at Yuksam
A 20-day Tourist Guide and Adventure Tourism Training Programme, conducted under the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, is being organised by the Department of Commerce and Industry, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with Sikkim Peak Tours and Travels.
The training programme commenced on 17 August 2026 at Yuksam with the objective of enhancing the knowledge, skills and professional capabilities of aspiring tourism professionals and adventure tourism enthusiasts in Sikkim.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Hon’ble West District Zilla Panchayat Adhyaksha Shri D. S. Limboo, in the presence of Hon’ble Panchayat President Smt. Sunita Limboo, along with officials from the District Administration DIC, Geyzing.
A total of 34 aspiring tourism professionals and enthusiasts from different parts of Sikkim are participating in the training programme.
During the 20-day programme, participants will receive practical and field-based training in various aspects of tourist guiding and adventure tourism, including trekking, camping, basic outdoor skills, safety and other adventure-related activities. One of the major highlights of the programme will be a seven-day trekking to Dzongri, providing participants with valuable hands-on experience in high-altitude trekking and expedition management.
The programme aims to develop a pool of skilled and responsible tourism professionals who can contribute meaningfully towards the growth of sustainable, safe and responsible tourism in Sikkim .
