A proud moment for India!

Shri Hally War of Siej Village, Sohra has been honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri Award 2026 for his remarkable contribution to social work and environmental conservation.

An unsung guardian of Khasi indigenous wisdom, Shri Hally War has dedicated his life to preserving the ancient art of bio-weaving living root bridges in the East Khasi Hills. Through his work, he has not only protected a rare ancestral practice but also strengthened community bonds, promoted sustainable tourism and inspired environmental stewardship for generations to come.

A farmer by profession, he continues to cultivate betel nuts, betel leaves, black pepper and fruits while serving as a true custodian of nature and traditional knowledge.

His journey is a beautiful reminder that tradition, culture and nature can thrive together in harmony.

Congratulations to the Shri. Hally War on this well-deserved honour! Meghalaya and the entire nation are proud.
