The CHADAR Frozen River Trek

Region :- Leh, Ladakh, J & K
Duration :- 09 days
Grade :- Difficult
Max Altitude :- 11,123 Ft.
Approx Trekking Km :- 70 kms.
Best Time : January - February

This trek is considered as one of the most exciting and unique treks – a very special and an extraordinary trek on shiny ice on the bank of Tsarap River. You will be dropped by a vehicle at Chilling Sumdo (crossed road) then yourtrek leads in a narrow valley filled with breath-taking views of ice-peaks and unexpected hanging icicles that will attract your gaze for some time. You will spend the night at cave camps with the help of a born fire that will keep you warm and relaxed.

Living a dream that WE never knew WE had – till WE lived (rode) it!!!

RCR started as a vague thought and in a year it reached a stage, where we actually had to close membership. That goes to show the spirit of the riders and all associated with the group. After being “Leh’ed” and many more other rides, it was time to plan the 1st Annual ride - and it had to be an experience of a lifetime… MANA Pass being the highest Motorable Road in the World was surely a target.

A lot of research, planning, discussions went into the challenge that we undertook – And MANA we did!!!

The enthusiasm built in after the dates were finalized from the mundane to the essential - with a crazy non-stop WhatsApp group - to designing a logo - getting T-shirts printed and finally getting the bikes ready!!! As in all groups, the personalities were varied - but the love for riding and the goal was the same for all - to ride as a team, not meddle with machine or nature and achieve what we had set out for. Along the way, we made bonds and memories for a lifetime.

The journey and no amount of research prepared us for the real thing. The thin air, no road at all, strict deadline, hostile procedures, gravel, stones of all shapes and sizes, boulders and water bodies were just a few of the obstacles. The bigger task was to remain together as a group and get back safely.

The enthusiasm of the group shall be often remembered with the anecdote most repeated of our sole female rider Minni Singh, all prepared to undertake the ride again the very next day!!! She is the only female rider to have undertaken such a ride successfully and has set a record which will take RCR to greater heights.

The pictures tell the story – of the fun, team-spirit, adventure, struggle, challenge and all that makes RCR what it is. Here’s to the BROTHERHOOD - till the next ride!!!

Hampta pass trek connects two beautiful valleys named; Kullu and Lahaul, where one gets to see various ever changing Landscapes. There are only few treks which can offer almost everything that one wishes to see on a Himalayan trek. Incredible views of glacial valleys, thick pine forest, open meadows, adrenaline pumping waterways, challenge as the ice was very slippery, steep climb on glacier and an adventurous crossing of a high altitude pass.

After an exciting day long trip camping at a high altitude is like camper's paradise.

The descent in the Spiti Valley trickier due to the loose rooks and glaciers. It was like magic when we entered Spiti valley. Suddenly from the fog, mist and dense vegetation of the Kullu Valley the scenes around us changed to brown with clear blue skies and extremely dry weather.
And the return road journey over the Rohtang pass was like an icing on the cake.

Nonetheless, its memories like these that are etched for lifetime. We would never forget the time when we played cards, Frisbee, eating Maggi surrounded by mountains on four sides and a nice water stream flowing besides us.

We would also never forget the team spirit when each of us held hands and crossed the icy cold glacial river with a high water current on day 2. It’s so difficult to believe that while trekking our bed time (or rather should I say sleeping bag time :P) would usually be around 9PM in the night and even for all the lazy bo**rs, we all used to awake by 6:00AM in the morning(My Mom would be so proud of this :D).

A group of unknown people from different places became pretty close to one another in a matter of Five days and such was the bonding that we all celebrate and cherish with the success of the trek.

In the end I cannot forget to mention the service of our guide, kitchen staff and helping staff. Really nice, helpful and cared for us a lot. It was not possible to complete this trek without their support. Thank you for this unforgettable trip!
