2-Day Itinerary from Tokyo to Kamikochi
Since it’s quite far, a 2-day trip is the most relaxing and popular way to experience it .
Day 1: Tokyo → Matsumoto → Kamikochi
· Morning (7:00 AM): Catch the JR Limited Express Azusa from Shinjuku Station to Matsumoto Station (approx. 2.5 hours) .
· Late Morning: From Matsumoto, take a direct Alpico Bus to the Kamikochi Bus Terminal .
· Afternoon (11:30 AM - 4:00 PM): Explore! You have about 4 hours to hike .
· Easy Route: Kamikochi Bus Terminal → Kappa Bridge → Tashiro Bridge → Tashiro Pond → Taisho Pond .
· Active Route: Kamikochi Bus Terminal → Kappa Bridge → Myojin Pond → Myojin Bridge (and back) .
· Evening (5:40 PM): Take the bus back to Matsumoto City and check into your hotel .
Day 2: Matsumoto → Tokyo
· Morning: Visit Matsumoto Castle—one of Japan’s oldest and most beautiful castles!
· Afternoon: Explore the Matsumoto City Museum of Art (famous for Yayoi Kusama’s works) or do some shopping before taking the train back to Tokyo .

Important Tip: Private cars are not allowed in Kamikochi to protect its pristine nature. You must take the designated buses! .
