Arunachal Pradesh is easy to reduce to a handful of familiar names.

But the further you travel, the more you realise how vast and varied this state really is, not just in landscape, but in the ways people live with it.

Mago is one of those places.

Here, alpine valleys open out beneath high mountains. Brokpa yak herders move through a landscape shaped by altitude and season. Buddhist belief leaves its mark in everyday life. Hot springs, stone homes, prayer flags and old mountain routes all sit within the same geography.

It’s not one landmark that makes Mago memorable. It’s the way these different worlds meet.

And that’s what we keep returning to in Arunachal Pradesh, the feeling that every valley holds a different version of the state.

One of the interesting experiences we recommend on your journey to Nagaland? Our foraging experience.

There’s something different about a meal when you’ve seen exactly where it begins.

You’ve walked through the landscape it comes from, learnt what to look for from people who know what grows where and when, gathered ingredients along the way, and watched them travel from soil and water to a pot over the fire.

By now, you’ve probably heard of Meghalaya for its waterfalls, winding rivers and postcard-perfect landscapes. But Meghalaya is more than the places you see in photographs. It is home to many communities, each with its own traditions, stories, food and ways of life.

Let’s take you to Garo Hills, the westernmost hill region of Meghalaya and home to the indigenous Garo people. Stretching towards the plains of Assam and Bangladesh, the region is shaped by forested hills, fertile valleys and the rhythms of everyday rural life.

Here, travel is less about chasing one landmark after another and more about slowing down and getting to know a place through its people.

You wander through Garo villages, taste locally made wines, share food, and spend time learning about the traditions, stories and cuisine that make this part of Meghalaya what it is.

We often see Meghalaya through its waterfalls and landscapes. This is an invitation to look beyond them.
