On this World Tourism Day, 2025 we pay our tribute to Zubeen Garg who beyond his professional work was a relentless environmental activist and spearheaded countless conservation projects, often using his voice and resources to organise community-led tree-planting drives, animal rescue and rehabilitation initiatives, a commitment which was unwavering. Gradually he became a symbol of Assamese identity and culture integrating Eco-Cultural narratives and bounteous traditions of Assam in his compositions, songs, poems and movies. His work always positioned Assam at the global stage and very often used these platforms to raise awareness on ecological and wildlife protection, cultural preservation and community identity. Truly Assam’s voice for Sustainable Transformation.

Tour Operators Association of Assam, in Association with Sishu Sarothi, Centre for Rehabilitation and Training for Multiple Disability and with the support of North East Development Finance Corporation Ltd, NEDFI successfully completed the 5 Day Indian Sign Language Workshop - SIGN AND SERVE.

Tourism is not just about destinations — it is about people, conversations, and meaningful connections. With the launch of the “Sign & Serve” Indian Sign Language (ISL) Workshop, Assam has taken its first step toward a truly inclusive travel environment — a small beginning with the promise of a larger transformation.

By learning ISL, hoteliers, homestay owners, guides, tour operators, and hospitality professionals can welcome the deaf and hard-of-hearing community with empathy and confidence, making travel in Assam more inclusive and accessible.

It was a pleasure to have an hour-long discussion on tourism in Assam with Shri Diganta Barah, IPS, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Assam, Tourism Department, and also Commissioner & Secretary, Home & Political Department.

The interaction was joined by Tour Operators Association of Assam (TOAA) members — Shri Mukul Medhi (President), Shri Kundal Roy (Secretary), Shri Ranjeet Das (Advisor), and Shri Arijit Purkayastha (Advisor).

Shri Barah’s vision and clarity of thought give us confidence that tourism in Assam is poised to shine under his leadership. With his dynamic approach, we believe that Assam can move toward a more strategic, inclusive, and globally appealing tourism roadmap, ensuring that our rich natural beauty, cultural heritage, and community-driven initiatives reach the recognition they truly deserve.
