The dhole, India’s wild dog, speaks not in howls but in whistles, chirps, and high calls that carry through the forest.
Fierce hunters, tender kin—where one eats, all eat.
A reminder that in the wild, survival is not solitude, but symphony.

Kabini wears her truest hues in the monsoon—lush greens, silvered rains, and the shimmer of life renewed. My monsoon safaris have a rhythm of their own, and in that rhythm, I always dream of leopards draped across rain-damp branches.

This time, we set our hearts on finding the famed Magge Female and her little cubs. Three safaris passed, until a single, urgent langur call cut through the wet air. And then—like a whispered promise kept—a magnificent male leopard emerged, padding effortlessly past us before melting into the distance.

In Kabini, the monsoon always finds a way to unveil its magic—sometimes in the trees, sometimes in the rain, always in the wild heart of this emerald forest.

She moved through the mist like a forgotten shadow — all hush and heartbeat, woven from myth and whispered magic. In the hush of dawn’s breath, she apparated - a hunter, a hymn of the wild, exuding strength and soaked in spell.

Caught in a moment of pure elegance, this mating pair of Scarlet Minivets (Pericrocotus flammeus) showcases the beauty of nature’s artistry. The vibrant scarlet and sleek charcoal feathers of the male perfectly complement the softer yellow tones of the female—a harmonious dance of contrasts in the wild.

The striped beauties of Bandipur. On a one nighter, with just two safaris to call our’s, the forest opened its arms out to us and showered us with magic! ✨

On our first safari, we happened upon a huge male tiger, sprawling in the bushes, not more than 10 feet from us. This one, we call the Karadi (sloth bear in Kannada) Male, was named after the time he fought and devoured a sloth bear! He got up, walked towards us while sniffing and territory marking before he disappeared back into the thick forest.

On the second safari, for the first two hours, mist made visibility hard but everything was a magical white. We drove through moving mist while the forest slowly transformed in front of us. It was only towards the end of safari that we came upon Moorkere Female. Skittishly lapping up water while she had her eyes constantly on us. What a way to end a safari!

If Bandipur keeps unleashing adventures like this, it will surely quickly move up my list of favourite Indian forests. Which one is your’s?
