Fatehpur Sikri, once the grand capital of Mughal Emperor Akbar now stands deserted, echoing with whispers of an ancient curse.
Legend says Akbar founded this city in reverence to Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, whose blessings gifted him an heir. The emperor-built palaces, mosques, and gardens here…intending it to be his eternal capital.
But just 14 years later, he abandoned it.
Was it the scarcity of water?
Or an outbreak of plague?
Or… was it a curse woven into its very foundation by unseen forces resisting imperial pride?
Locals whisper that Akbar dared disturb the resting spirits beneath the ridge. Rituals once performed to keep the place “spiritually sealed” were abruptly halted. Shadows grew longer. Strange sounds haunted the empty corridors of Buland Darwaza and Jodha Bai’s palace.
Even today, wandering through the Diwan-i-Khas or Anup Talao, travelers report unseen touches, sudden chills, and dreams that echo voices from centuries past.
One visitor with La Ruta described being followed by a presence…something she couldn’t name. She left Fatehpur, but Fatehpur didn’t leave her.
