Umrah Tips for Toddlers:
Ensure your child has modest clothing for Umrah rituals as well as comfortable, closed-toe shoes. For 10 days we took the following clothes:
3 abayas
5 comfortable cotton maxi dresses
3 cotton mid length dresses with tights
2 scarves/hijab
2 sets of pyjamas.
Pack a variety of healthy snacks (nuts, biscuits, fruits, dates)
a refillable water bottle to keep your child nourished and hydrated. Zam Zam is easily accessible so we would refill with Zam Zam water. Air Tag or Children's Harness
✔Diapers/wipes/pull-ups: H is potty trained but for this trip we carried pull ups as emergencies as sometimes bathrooms were too far.
Baby Carrier or Stroller: Depending on your child's age and comfort, consider bringing a baby carrier or stroller for ease of movement. Strollers are allowed in the sayee area as well as the upper floors of the Masjid (just not the main mataaf area).
✔Medications and First-Aid: Include any necessary medications and a basic first-aid kit tailored to your child. Check vaccinations you need beforehand Sunscreen we used educational apps to keep kids engaged during downtime into the Masjid to share with other children too.
✔ Tasbih making kit was such a hit! We created personalised tasbih so H can take with her to Umrah.
Recitations and Duas with Children:
✔Surah Al-Fatiha: Teach your child to recite Surah Al-Fatiha, one of the most important chapters in the Quran.
Teach simple duas related to Umrah with your child, teach them the Talbiyah (Labayka allahuma labayk)
Books for Children:
Finally, adapt your approach to your child's age. Patience and flexibility are essential when traveling with children. You can also check the Nusuk app to see less hectic times to perform umrah.
