Kerala to be officially renamed as “Keralam”

The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal to alter the name of the State of Kerala to Keralam, aligning the official English name with its Malayalam pronunciation, “Keralam (കേരളം)”.

The proposal, previously passed by the Kerala State Assembly, seeks to reflect the state’s cultural and linguistic heritage more accurately. The change will take effect following Parliamentary approval and official notification in accordance with constitutional procedures.
