Thondaiman , the King of Puthukkottai , fearing the attack of the neighboring king , fled the kingdom with family and valuables, towards west.
The royal family then settled in a place , above the hills overlooking the plains to the east.
Thondaiman – fearing losing the valuables to another attack , hid it in a cave , on a higher hill, closed with a stone door with a chain attached , to open the door.
The other end of the chain was hid into a nearby lake.
The one who finds the end of the chain underneath the lake and pulls it , will own the treasure of Thondaiman.

The of treasure might be an imaginary one , but the ruins of the fort of Thondaiman , though ruined by time and humans , still stands and so does the hill.
