Yellow-eyed Babbler | Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh | 2016

Native to central India, the Yellow-eyed Babbler is seen in pairs or in groups. This bird avoids deep forests and prefers open areas with tall grasses and bushy patches.

It is not known to take long flights. The flights are usually short and jerky. They mainly feed on insects, berries and nectar.

In this picture, the bird is seen perched on a Flame of the forest tree (Butea monosperma), locally known as Palash or Tesu.

Commonly known as Parrot, the Rose-ringed Parakeet is a medium sized bird with bright green plumage. Resident in central India. Though they are one of the highest poached birds in India as they are kept as pets in cages since many years, they are present in good proportions all over.

The breeding season for Rose-ringed Parakeets is in December and January. The eggs are hatched in February and March. The father and mother birds both take part in caring, protecting, and feeding the young birds.

Their diet consists of fruits, flowers, nectar, cereals and grains depending upon the availability of area and the time of year.

Crested Serpent Eagle is a resident bird of prey found in Madhya Pradesh, India. It lives mainly in all kinds of dry or wet forests, mangroves and scrubs. It can be seen perched upright in well-wooded areas. It watches it's prey motionless and drops vertically to make kills.

It mainly feeds on snakes, lizards, mice, small birds and frogs.

India is home to more than 1300 species of avifauna. It offers an experience of a lifetime for birders coming from all round the world.

The Black Drongo, resident in Madhya Pradesh, is one of Kanha's common birds and can be seen all around the park.
They are aggressive and fearless. When threatened or disturbed, they can be seen taking on a much larger species.
Drongos are also known for their mimicking qualities and can easily confuse predators and sometimes even birders.
