Nahargarh Fort

Nahargarh Fort It's a historical fort in Jaipur, Rajasthan. It looks most classy when floodlit at night. It was built in 1734 and extended in 1868.

Nahargarh Fort is located on the sheer rugged ridge of Aravali Hills and it forms an impressive northern backdrop of Jaipur. The fort overlooks the city and presents a glittering view of the city lights. Nahargarh meaning abode of the tigers was built by Jai Singh to bolster the defense of Amber. The legend also have it that it was named Nahargarh after Nahar Singh a prince whose spirit would dest

roy the construction and not allow its progress further. So after a tantrik prayer to the spirit it agreed to leave on condition that the fort is named after him. The Madhavendra Bhawan, built by Sawai Ram Singh II has uniquely a cluster of 12 identical suits for queens and at the head is a suit for the king himself. The rooms are linked by corridors and retain some delicate frescos as well as toilets and kitchen hearths. It was used by members of the royal family for excursion in summers and is now even a favoured picnic spot. Durg Cafeteria just above the entrance sells meals and refreshments, while Padao Restaurant on the west sells drinks around sunset.

The backside of Nahargarh Fort, The fort was originally named Sudarshangarh, but it became known as Nahargarh, which means 'abode of tigers'. The popular belief is that Nahar here stands for Nahar Singh Bhomia, whose spirit haunted the place and obstructed construction of the fort. Nahar's spirit was pacified by building a temple in his memory within the fort, which thus became known by his name.

There are several places in Rajasthan where you can go for Camel Safari, and the best ones include Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Pushkar, and Jodhpur. Each of these places offers a unique and memorable experience.

Jaisalmer, the Golden City as it is often dubbed, is located in the heart of the Thar desert. Riding on camelback through the rolling sand dunes of the Thar desert is an experience like no other. Also, about 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) west of Jaisalmer lies another best locale — the Sam Sand Dunes, which are characterized by tall sand dunes (about 30-60 meters) and almost no vegetation. This is the most popular place for safari, which makes it the most crowded as well. Nonetheless, camel safari here is fun! You can disembark at various points along the way and camp through the spectacular dunes.

The Jal Mahal palace is an architectural showcase of the Rajput style of architecture (common in Rajasthan) on a grand scale. The building has a picturesque view of the lake itself but owing to its seclusion from land is equally the focus of a viewpoint from the Man Sagar Dam on the eastern side of the lake in front of the backdrop of the surrounding Nahargarh ("tiger-abode") hills. The palace, built-in red sandstone, is a five-storied building, of which four floors remain underwater when the lake is full and the top floor is exposed. One rectangular Chhatri on the roof is of the Bengal type. The chhatris on the four corners are octagonal. The palace had suffered subsidence in the past and also partial seepage (plasterwork and wall damage equivalent to rising damp) because of waterlogging, which have been repaired under a restoration project of the Government of Rajasthan.

Nahargarh Fort stands on the edge of the Aravalli Hills, overlooking the city of Jaipur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Along with Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh once formed a strong defense ring for the city. The fort was originally named Sudarshangarh, but it became known as Nahargarh, which means 'abode of tigers'. The popular belief is that Nahar here stands for Nahar Singh Bhomia, whose spirit haunted the place and obstructed construction of the fort. Nahar's spirit was pacified by building a temple in his memory within the fort, which thus became known by his name.
