The Story Behind This Frame

Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh and designed by Lal Chand Ustad, Hawa Mahal, or the Palace of Winds, is one of Jaipur's most iconic landmarks. Its remarkable façade of 953 intricately carved jharokhas (windows) allowed royal women to observe festivals and daily life on the streets while remaining unseen, in keeping with the purdah tradition of the time.
The elephant walking past Hawa Mahal evokes the grandeur of Rajasthan's royal past. For centuries, elephants were closely associated with kings and noble processions. They carried royalty during ceremonial events, weddings, and state occasions, symbolizing strength, dignity, prosperity, and honor. Even today, the sight of an elephant against the backdrop of Hawa Mahal reflects the timeless spirit of Jaipur's royal heritage.

Galta Ji – The Sacred Heritage of Jaipur.
