Kerala Piravi

Kerala Piravi marks the birth of the state Kerala in India. The very picturesque state of Kerala was formed on 1 November 1956, after India go it’s independence from the British. On this day, malayalees all around the world celebrate the birth of their mother land. The name Keralam is a portmanteau word combining the words ‘kera’ and ‘alam’ which literally translates to ‘coconuts’ and ‘land’. Hence Keralam is known as the land of coconut trees.

Kerala, the home to languid backwaters, long coastlines, sprawling tea gardens and colorful dance forms is famously known as god’s own country. Located on the Malabar coast of southern India, it is a tiny sliver of paradise that is also one of the best tourist destinations one can look for. It is adorned with eminent national parks, serene beaches, ancient temples, quiet villages and bustling cities, and tourist destination that are known to all. The land of simple and literate citizens, Kerala will amuse one with its spectacular dance forms, music and handicrafts. It is considered to be among one of the ten paradises in the world.

Kerala is a 560km long narrow stretch of land with a width of 120km extending from sea to mountains. The state is covered with dense tropical forests, beautiful beaches, backwaters, cliffs fertile plains, still plains and 44 rivers. On one side it has lofty mountains while on the other there is the great Arabian sea in its full glory. Kerala’s spices have lured foreigners from all over the world from time immemorial.

According to archaeologists, the first inhabitants of Kerala had a tint of Negrito. It is believed that they were hunters, and still inhabit the remote mountains of southern India. They possessed a depth of knowledge in herbal medicine, interpreting natural phenomenon etc. Negrito was followed by Austrics, who are the present day Australian aborigines. They introduced farming and cultivated rice and vegetables. Followed by Austrics, came the Dravidians, they absorbed all the skills from the Negrito and aborigines. They strongly believed in mother goddess.
