Lucknow just earned its place on the global food map!

At the 43rd UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the city was declared a “Creative City of Gastronomy”, joining 70 culinary destinations worldwide and becoming only the second Indian city after Hyderabad to win this honour.

From the royal kitchens of the Nawabs to the bustling streets of kebabs and chaats, Lucknow’s timeless flavours have always told stories of culture, craft, and community.

Tourism & Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh welcomed the recognition, calling it a boost for culinary tourism, which has drawn visitors to Uttar Pradesh for generations.

With the nomination submitted in January 2025 and UNESCO’s announcement on October 31, this milestone shines a light on India’s rich food heritage. And with 7 million+ visitors in just the first half of 2025, Lucknow’s flavours are clearly winning hearts worldwide.

Once a year, the ghats of Varanasi transform into rivers of light. Thousands of diyas shimmer across the Ganga, their reflections dancing on the water as chants fill the air with devotion. It’s not just a festival — it’s an emotion, a divine spectacle that blurs the line between heaven and earth.

Celebrated fifteen days after Diwali, Dev Deepawali marks the day when the gods themselves are believed to descend to Varanasi to bathe in the holy Ganga and celebrate Lord Shiva’s victory over the demon Tripurasura; the triumph of good over evil, of light over darkness.

On this sacred night, over a million lamps illuminate the ancient ghats, painting the city in a golden glow that feels almost otherworldly. The air hums with prayers, the river sparkles with devotion, and Varanasi glows in its purest form.

For travelers, it’s not merely a celebration to watch, it’s a moment to feel, to breathe in, and to remember forever.
