Winter Preparedness Reviewed, But Will People Be Spared the Annual Hardships? J&K’s Winter Test: Promises of Preparedness, Questions Over Ground Reality Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has reviewed winter preparedness and directed departments to ensure snow clearance, scheduled power supply, adequate essential supplies and emergency healthcare. But the real question is: Will these instructions translate into relief for people, or will winter once again expose the gaps in administration? Will roads in snowbound areas be cleared on time, or will residents face days of isolation due to poor coordination between departments?
Will power curtailment schedules actually be followed, or will consumers continue to suffer unscheduled cuts without timely information?
Are hospitals, 4x4 ambulances and emergency medical teams genuinely prepared to handle critical cases in remote areas, particularly pregnant women requiring urgent medical attention?
Areas like Gurez, Machhil, Karnah, Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur and Kathua need more than review meetings and official assurances.
The government must ensure that winter does not become an annual ordeal for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Actions on the ground—not assurances on paper will determine the outcome.

On Police Commemoration Day, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid a solemn tribute to the brave police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, remembering their courage, patriotism and unwavering commitment to protecting the nation.
Delivering a strong message against terrorism, LG Sinha declared that those supporting terrorist activities would be identified and brought to justice under the law, irrespective of where they attempt to hide. From combating terrorism and maintaining law and order to rescuing people during emergencies and natural disasters, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has demonstrated extraordinary courage and dedication under challenging circumstances.
The Lieutenant Governor stressed the need to strengthen peace, communal harmony and public security, while intensifying efforts against drug trafficking, narco-terrorism and crimes against women and children.

REMEMBERING MAHARAJA GULAB SINGH: NAT­RANG BRINGS JAMMU’S GLORIOUS HISTORY ALIVE! 234th Birth Anniversary Celebrated Through Special Screening of ‘Gulab Gatha’ in Jammu Jammu’s rich historical legacy took centre stage as Natrang celebrated the 234th birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh, founder of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, with a special screening of Gulab Gatha at Natrang Studio Theatre on October 21.
Written, conceptualised and directed by Padma Shri Balwant Thakur, the feature film brought together young students and artists to revisit the extraordinary journey of a visionary ruler whose military achievements, political acumen and statecraft shaped the history of the region.
“Our history is our identity!” The screening highlighted the importance of connecting younger generations with their roots and preserving the stories of the personalities who shaped Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion, Balwant Thakur recalled how Gulab Gatha evolved from a stage production presented in 2015 and 2016 into a feature film, developed in 2017 and upgraded in 2018. He also acknowledged the support and trust of Dr. Karan Singh, Chairman of the Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust.

makes judicial history. Country’s highest-altitude High Court Bench begins regular hearings at Leh. Chief Justice Dr Pushpendra Singh Bhati, Justice Sanjay Parihar preside over historic first regular division bench. A historic chapter in the Indian judicial history unfolded on Wednesday when Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, Dr Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Justice Sanjay Parihar presided over the first regular division bench at Leh.
The newly established Ladakh Bench of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh located at a breath-taking height of over 11,500 feet above sea level, began regular hearing of the cases.
The day began with the hearing by the Division Bench in which the Chief Justice heard the matters through virtual mode while Justice Sanjay Parihar was present physically at the Ladakh Bench. After the conclusion of the hearing of five listed Division Bench matters, Justice Sanjay Parihar sat singly and dealt with as many as 60 matters listed before the single bench. Today’s proceedings made use of technology to facilitate a sort of hybrid hearing with the Chief Justice hearing through Virtual Mode and Justice Sanjay Parihar doing physical hearing.
Earlier, litigants from Leh, Kargil and other far-flung areas of Ladakh would undertake lengthy journeys to Srinagar or Jammu for proceedings before the High Court. The commencement of hearings here is also encouraging for the legal fraternity of Ladakh including advocates.

Punjabi Language Demand: Dr. Satwant Singh Rissam Urges J&K Government to Initiate Dialogue. Dr. Satwant Singh Rissam, Chairman of the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial Trust, J&K, has urged the Jammu and Kashmir Government to initiate a timely and meaningful dialogue on the demands for the recognition and promotion of the Punjabi language. Expressing concern over the continued delay, Dr. Rissam warned that ignoring public concerns could deepen disappointment, weaken public trust and prolong the ongoing agitation. He called for inclusive consultations involving Punjabi-speaking communities, educators, language experts, students, civil society and religious leaders. He also urged the Government to appoint a senior officer to coordinate the process, establish a clear timeline and issue a written response to the stakeholders’ recommendations. “Dialogue, mutual respect and a constructive approach are essential for a lasting resolution,” he said, appealing to all concerned to maintain peace. Will the J&K Government respond to the demand with a concrete roadmap and a time-bound dialogue?

The iconic Shree Raghunath Ji Temple, Jammu, resonated with devotion and spiritual fervour as a grand Maha Aarti was organised by Shri Raghunath Ji Jammu Maha Aarti Sanstha, with the support of Dharmarth Trust Jammu and Kashmir, during Navratri.
The evening began with the soulful rendition of Aigiri Nandini, followed by the Maha Aarti dedicated to Goddess Durga. Women, scholars, students and devotees participated in the spiritual gathering, celebrating the rich traditions of Sanatan Dharma.

LADAKH LAUNCHES ‘SANJEEVANI SEVA’: 73 AMBULANCES TO COVER 248 VILLAGES! A major step towards strengthening emergency healthcare in Ladakh! Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has launched Ladakh Sanjeevani Seva, a dedicated 24×7 ambulance service designed to serve all 248 villages across the Union Territory’s seven districts.
📍 Key Highlights:
73 ambulances deployed across Leh, Kargil, Changthang, Sham, Nubra, Zanskar and Drass.
Emergency helpline: 108
More than 1,100 pregnant women mapped for timely ambulance support and hospital transportation.
Special focus on road accidents, high-altitude emergencies, tourists’ medical needs and patients in remote villages.
❤️ Support for patients suffering from cancer, kidney disease, heart ailments, stroke and serious lung diseases who require repeated hospital visits.
Each village has been mapped to a designated ambulance and driver, with ambulances located an average of approximately 13 kilometres from the villages they serve.
The initiative aims to reduce delays in accessing emergency medical care, particularly for pregnant women and critically ill patients living in remote areas and facing harsh winter conditions.
The real test now will be ensuring that ambulances remain operational around the clock, roads and weather do not prevent timely access, and every emergency call receives a prompt response.
A timely ambulance can mean the difference between life and death.

LADAKH TO GET ITS FIRST GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGE FROM 2027–28! A major milestone for Ladakh’s healthcare and medical education! 🇮🇳 The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved the operationalisation of Ladakh’s first Government Medical College in Leh from the academic year 2027–28, following the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena.
✅ 103 sanctioned regular posts to be filled in phases
✅ Two newly constructed buildings to serve as the interim Academic Block and Students’ Hostel
✅ 200-bedded SNM Hospital to provide clinical training
✅ Better opportunities for Ladakh’s youth to pursue medical education closer to home
The approval follows the L-G’s request for a one-time relaxation in the infrastructure-completion requirement to enable recruitment preparations to begin while construction continues.
The move is expected to strengthen medical education, improve clinical training opportunities and contribute to the long-term development of healthcare services in Ladakh.
L-G Vinai Kumar Saxena expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda for their support, describing the approval as an important milestone for the region.

A long-awaited dream is moving towards reality. The next challenge is to ensure timely recruitment, completion of infrastructure and the smooth commencement of classes in 2027–28.
