Jonha Panchayat in Jharkhand is becoming a blueprint for what community-owned rural tourism can look like in India.
Under this Rural Economic Zone initiative, the community isn't just a backdrop to the tourism experience. They own it.
🏡 Homestays run by local households, rooted in tribal aesthetics and rural living
👩🍳 Women's SHGs leading food experiences and folk performances
🥾 Youth-run trekking, guiding, and craft workshops
🛖 A Market Stand hub integrating a millet café, farmer market, handicraft shops, tourist info centre, and public conveniences, with rainwater harvesting and waste management built in
The goal: a replicable model for rural tourism across Jharkhand, where employment, income, and cultural identity are all locally owned.
We are grateful to build this alongside our technical partners Trippy Hills.
