A memorable evening celebrating the stories, flavours, and traditions that have shaped generations in Kargil.
On 2nd June, we were honoured to launch Stories from a Kargili Kitchen at Syed Mehdi Memorial Hall, Kargil, in the presence of distinguished guests, scholars, community leaders, and members of the public who joined us in celebrating Kargil’s rich culinary heritage.
This book is the result of a journey to document recipes, memories, food traditions, local ingredients, and the stories that connect them all. More than a cookbook, it is a tribute to the people, culture, and collective wisdom that have preserved these traditions over generations.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Chief Guest, Dr. Jaffer Akhoon, Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil; Guest of Honour, Hon’ble Member of Parliament Haji Mohd Haneefa Jan; our special guests, dignitaries, councillors, academics, literary experts, researchers, and everyone who joined us on this special occasion.
Most importantly, we thank the families, elders, home cooks, and community members whose knowledge and stories made this book possible.
