For **Indian nationals**, here are the new Mauritius immigration rules that apply as of **June 2026**:
# # # **1. Updated Occupation Permit (OP) rules – effective 2025-2026**
These apply to Indians working, investing, or self-employed in Mauritius:
**For Professionals:**
- **Degree-level skill now required**: Skilled Worker visa raised to RQF Level 6 equivalent. Must have bachelor’s degree + employment contract with a Mauritian company
- **New categories**: `ProPass` and `Expert Pass` introduced to recognize expertise, not just salary
- **Fees in USD**: 2-year OP = USD 400, 3-year = USD 500, 5-year = USD 800, 10-year = USD 1,000
**For Investors:**
- **Minimum investment lowered**: Investor OP threshold cut from USD 100,000 to **USD 50,000** to attract more Indian/South African entrepreneurs
- **10-year permits** now standard instead of 3 years
- **Fee**: USD 1,000 for Investor OP
**For Self-Employed:**
- **Business viability check**: Renewals now based on actual performance, not just initial business plan
- **Fee**: USD 1,000 for Self-Employed OP
# # # **2. New Golden Visa Scheme – launched April 2026**
Popular with Indian digital nomads, remote workers, and HNIs:
- **2-year residence**, renewable, processed in ∼5 business days
- **No local work allowed**: You can’t work for Mauritian companies. But remote work for Indian/foreign employers is fine
- **Family included**: Spouse + dependents eligible if you meet financial + housing thresholds
- **Property**: Can buy real estate under government-approved schemes → path to longer residence
- **Income must stay offshore**: Your business/income source has to be outside Mauritius
# # # **3. Retiree Residence Permit**
Many Indians use this for retirement/relocation:
- **No minimum stay** required in Mauritius
- **Financial**: Transfer USD 2,000 within 60 days of approval, then USD 24,000/year or USD 2,000/month
- **Ranked top 5 globally** for retirees due to 15% max tax + no wealth/inheritance tax
# # # **4. Important requirements for Indians**
- **HIV testing**: Mauritius requires HIV testing for any residency permit longer than 90 days. Applicants can be denied based on HIV status
- **Fees now in USD**: All application fees changed from MUR to USD, effective immediately
- **Dependents**: Family OP = USD 1,000 + USD 400 per dependent. Parents and spouse can now join without separate work permits
# # # **5. Visa-free entry for Indians**
- **Tourism/Business**: Indians get visa-free entry for 60 days on arrival
- **Longer stays**: Must apply for OP, Golden Visa, or Retiree Permit before arrival or extend in-country
**Key changes vs. before**: Lower investment threshold, 10-year permits standard, faster Golden Visa, all fees in USD, stricter business viability checks.
