Neelakurinji is a bell shaped flower which blooms once in twelve years. During its bloom, it turns the hills of Nilgiri into a beautiful shade of blue. The Palaruvi falls is a waterfall located in in Thenmala, Kollam district. It is the 32nd highest waterfall in India. It is a single drop, horsetails type waterfall with a total height of 300ft. This fall is across the Kallada River. Palaruvi literally means stream of milk is one of the famous waterfalls in Kerala which attracts thousands of tourists every day. Cascading down a height of 300 ft it is the most picturesque waterfalls in Kerala.

A journey through the dense tropical forest surrounded by mist-clad blue hills is a mesmerizing experience which can never forget. Going up to the top of the waterfalls is an awesome experience, at the same time risky also. The waterfall forms milk-white burst of forms and thus got its name Palaruvi (Stream of Milk). The pool which is formed at the bottom of the waterfall becomes an ideal spot for tourists to spend their time for swimming and bathing.

The waterfall is in its gigantic form during monsoon and a vision of the falls from the bottom is breathtaking. So the monsoon season is the best season to visit this marvelous spot and at this time the water fall is at its full glory with a roaring sound which can hear from a long distance. The water is said to having medicinal powers to cure our many diseases. The green valleys, which is an eye catching sight on the way provides an exceptional beauty to the journey. This is an excellent family tourist spot.

Nelliyampathy is a hill station 60 kilometres from Palakkad, Kerala. The height of the hills ranges from 467 m to 1572 m. The hills are embellished with the multiple nature treasures that make it one of the favourite holiday destinations amongst the tourists. Nicknamed as the Second Ooty, if there is one word that best describes Nelliyampathy hills than it will be gorgeous. Seethargund, according to beliefs is the place where Lord Rama, Laxmana and Seetha rested during their exile. Now, this waterfall is a well-known pilgrimage site and is visited by devotees in huge number to take a dip in holy water and feel enlightened.

On the way up, those interested in bio farming can take a close look at the privately managed farms and also vast expanses of tea estates managed by different plantation companies. The hills of Nelliyampathy are also well known for its orange cultivation. Privately owned hotels and resorts are located at various points, as one goes up the hills of Nelliyampathy. The bio-farms located here are a major landmark as one proceeds up before reaching the topmost point at Palagapandi estate. The estate has a quaint bungalow, built during the period of the British rule in India, and has now been converted into a private owned resort. At Kaikatty, a community hall is available, which is usually used as a base by those interested in trekking.
