3. Thalassery Fort, Kannur, Kerala
Where the sea meets history—Thalassery Fort stands tall on the coast of Kannur, quietly telling stories of Kerala’s colonial past.
Built in 1708 by the British East India Company with the support of the Kolathiri Raja, this fort marked the start of British rule in Malabar. Its strong laterite walls—made using a mix of egg whites, quicklime, and sugar candy—have stood the test of time for over 300 years.
Locals say there are secret tunnels hidden beneath, leading straight to the Arabian Sea—paths once used by soldiers and spies long ago. 🌊
Standing on the cliff, you can enjoy stunning views of the sea, visit the old lighthouse and cemetery inside, and feel the whispers of history around every corner.
Today, the fort is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India, welcoming visitors to step back in time and explore its silent strength.

Every stone here tells a story—of power, pride, and the sea that watched it all.
