🛶 Itinerary
Kumartuli Kumor Para (Artisan Colony) – The potter’s colony where generations of master artisans sculpt Durga idols from Ganges clay. Watch bamboo skeletons wrapped in straw, layers of smooth clay applied by hand, and the intense moment when the eyes are ritually painted to “bring the goddess to life.” Every corner offers candid frames of focused craftsmen, raw devotion, and half-born deities.
Kumartuli Ghat – The quiet riverbank ,in the soft morning light, you’ll frame artisans wading in the water, half-finished deities resting against old stone, wooden boats bobbing gently, and reflections that seem to blur the line between the real and the divine.
The Ghats – Kolkata’s oldest and most storied ceremonial ghats, dating back to the very first grand Durga Puja hosted by Raja Nabakrishna Deb in the 18th century. Its broad colonial-era steps, surrounding heritage mansions, and morning bathers create a layered backdrop of history, ritual, and everyday river life – an iconic photography canvas.
Jorasanko Thakurbari (Tagore House) – The majestic ancestral home of Rabindranath Tagore, now an intimate museum. Walk through the red-brick courtyard where the poet grew up, see his personal belongings, letters, and paintings, and capture the quiet melancholy of Bengal’s renaissance frozen in time. The light filtering through stained glass and the aged wooden balconies are a frame within a frame.
Marble Palace – A hidden 19th-century neoclassical wonder, filled with priceless art by Rubens and Reynolds, Victorian sculptures, massive chandeliers, and an overgrown private zoo. Its gleaming marble halls, vintage curios, and sun-dappled garden with peacocks roaming freely offer a surreal, almost forgotten world just waiting to be photographed.
