Bengaluru International Airport (BIAL) has launched India's first biometric-enabled self-bag drop facility at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).
BIAL has partnered with the Materna Group to introduce this facility in Terminal 2, with plans to expand it to Terminal 1 and other domestic airports.
Tata Group airlines, including Air India, Air India Express, and Vistara, have piloted this initiative.
Previously, passengers needed to print boarding passes at self-check-in kiosks for bag drop.
Now, Digi Yatra allows domestic passengers to navigate the airport using face-scan biometric technology, eliminating the need for boarding passes or other identification.
Passengers can select the ‘scan your face biometric for baggage drop’ option, follow instructions to capture a biometric image, and proceed with luggage drop-off.
The machine verifies flight details, asks about forbidden items, and instructs passengers to place their luggage on the conveyor.
Tags can be generated at kiosks or the machine, and the luggage is automatically weighed, scanned, and sent to the baggage handling system.
