দাওয়াইপানি।।

দার্জিলিং থেকে মাত্র কুড়ি কিমি দূরে, অফবিট লোকেশনের খোঁজ করা ট্রাভেলরদের পরিচিত ঠিকানা এখন দাওয়াইপানি। উল্টোদিকের পাহাড়ে দার্জিলিং আর এপাশে দাওয়াইপানি। রাতের আলোয় গোটা দার্জিলিং শহরকে দেখলে মনে হয় কোন রাজকুমারীর চিবুকে এক সোনা-মণিমুক্ত খচিত নেকলেস যেন। দাওয়াই কথার অর্থ ঔষধি আর পানি হলো জল, ব্রিটিশ কোলোনিয়াল সময়ে এই অঞ্চলের জলকে অসুখ সারানোর ওষুধ হিসেবেই ব্যাবহার করা হতো। একদিকে সবুজ পাইনের সারি আর মাঝে বয়ে চলা সর্পিল আকাঁবাঁকা রাস্তা। আকাশ পরিষ্কার থাকলে নীল আকাশের পটে আঁকা থাকা শ্বেত কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘার উপস্থিতি। ১৫০ মতো ঘর রয়েছে এই গ্রামে। লেপচা-তামাং প্রভৃতি উপজাতির বাস এখানে। নিরিবিলিতে সবুজে ঘেরা দাওয়াইপানি আপনার ছোট একটা মন খারাপের দাওয়াই হতে পারে দুদিন কাটিয়ে গেলে। হোম্সটেতে উষ্ণ আতিথিয়তার সাথে মিলবে, ঘরোয়া খাবার। হোম্সটের জানলা দিয়েই দেখা মেলে কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘার। লেবং থেকে শেষ ৮ কিমি রাস্তা বেশ খারাপ, তাই যারা নিজেদের গাড়ি নিয়ে আসবেন পাহাড়ে চালানোয় দক্ষ হলেই আসুন। নচেৎ রিজার্ভ গাড়ি করে আসতে পারেন।

দাওয়াইপানি থেকে নামচি চারধাম দেখা যায় উল্টোদিকের পাহাড়ে। এছাড়া কাঞ্চনের ভিউও অসাধারণ। দাওয়াইপানি থেকে দিনে-দিনেই ঘুরে আসা যায় দার্জিলিং ও তার আশেপাশের দেখার জায়গা যেমন জাপানিজ টেম্পল, জু, টাইগার হিল প্রভৃতি। এছাড়া লামাহাট্টা, তাকদা, তিনচুলে, পেশক, গ্লেনবার্ণ টি এস্টেট, রংলি-রংলিয়ট সব‌ই ঘুরে আসা যায়।

নিউ জলপাইগুড়ি থেকে দাওয়াইপানির দূরত্ব ৭৫ কিমি।
