One road most people never drive. Zangla's 17th-century palace, Karsha's 1,000-year-old monastery, a surprise evening inside a real Zanskari home, and a glacier that'll stop you mid-scroll β€” all on a trade route that once fed the Silk Route.

πŸ‡§πŸ‡Ή Bhutan doesn't have to be complicated.

For Indian travellers, it's one of the easiest international destinations to exploreβ€”yet it's often surrounded by questions.

✈️ Do I need a visa?
πŸš— Should I fly or go by road?
πŸ›‚ What permits are required?
πŸ’Έ Will Indian Rupees work?
πŸ“Ά Will my phone have network?
🍁 When is the best season to visit?

We answered all of these (and more) in this carousel so you can spend less time researching and more time dreaming about prayer flags fluttering in the mountains, centuries-old monasteries, Himalayan roads, and festivals that are unlike anything you've experienced before.

At Travel AIP, we handle the permits, paperwork, local coordination, and logisticsβ€”so all you need to do is show up and immerse yourself in the magic of Bhutan. β€οΈπŸ”οΈ

πŸ’¬ Have another question? Drop it in the comments or send us a DMβ€”we're always happy to help.

🎭 Thimphu Tshechu Festival

Kuzo Zangpo! Quick one β€” do you know what "Tshechu" actually means? πŸ‘€

It's literally "the tenth day" β€” the date on Bhutan's lunar calendar this whole festival hangs on. Started in the 17th century by Gyalse Tenzin Rabgye as a handful of monks praying inside Tashichho Dzong... it's now 3 days of masked Cham dancers retelling Guru Rinpoche's 8 legendary forms, right there in the dzong courtyard. 🎭

The finale still gets me every year: a giant sacred thongdrol unrolled before dawn. Tradition says one glimpse nudges you a little closer to enlightenment. I've stood in that pre-dawn cold with butter tea, watching a thousand people go silent at once. πŸ™πŸ½

🦒 Black-Necked Crane Festival, Phobjikha

Legend says these cranes circle the monastery three times before landing β€” once to pay respects, twice more just because. I've watched it happen and honestly, for a second, I believe it too. 🦒

Every winter, 300-500 black-necked cranes glide down from the Tibetan plateau into the Phobjikha valley β€” sacred birds in Bhutanese belief, symbols of longevity, sometimes called messengers of Guru Rinpoche himself. The festival began in 1998, started by local farmers and conservationists with one goal: get people to fall in love with the cranes so they'd protect the wetland. It worked. πŸ’š

Best part? A courtyard full of local schoolchildren dressed as cranes, dancing their hearts out at Gangtey Monastery. Not a stage in the world with more genuine joy on it. 🩷

Kuzo Zangpo! πŸ™πŸ½βœ¨ Bhutan's festival calendar is out and I built our dates around it.

🎭 19–25 Sept β†’ Thimphu Tshechu β€” mask dances + a dawn thongdrol unveiling that gives us goosebumps every single year
🦒 7–14 Nov β†’ Black-Necked Crane Festival, Phobjikha β€” kids dressed as cranes, real cranes circling the monastery (yes, actually three times, don't ask me how they know)

No flight, no visa hassle β€” we drive in via Bagdogra, permits + SDF fully sorted by us. πŸšπŸ”οΈ

πŸ“… All 2026 Bhutan departures (6N7D, ex-Bagdogra):
19–25 Sept
7–14 Nov
27 Dec–1 Jan

Masks or cranes β€” which one's calling you? πŸ‘‡ Comment your pick, full details are in the link in bio!
