During my research on history of Kanvashram I came across an incident which is a classic example how the historical facts are distorted and presented.
A story has been going around since long that, it was Nehru, Prime Minister of this nation who was responsible for construction of a memorial symbolising the presence of Kanvashram, post-independence at Chawkighat in 1956. As per the saying Nehru visited USSR, (now Russia) in 1955. During his visit a ballet(dance drama) composed on the drama Abhigyan Shakuntalam, written by Kalidas was shown to him. After the performance, news reporters asked Nehru, as to where Kanvashram was located. Having no knowledge about the ancient heritage of this nation, he had no answer. Fact about the visit of Nehru has been confirmed by me from Embassy of India, Moscow Russia via the Ministry of External Affairs, India. He did visit USSR in 1955. Though event about presentation of the ballet were not confirmed. The story continues, that on his return Nehru deputed Shri Sampurna Nand, CM of Utter Pradesh to locate the historical heritage site. CM of UP did visit Chawkighata, Kotdwara, Uttarakhand in Nov 1955 and this fact is confirmed by L.P.Nathani in his book Malini ke Khander. Chief minister declared that a memorial is be erected on the bank of river Malini at Chawkighata, indicating the symbolic presence of Kanvashram.
The twist in the story is that CM of UP did come to Chawkighat but not on instruction of Nehru, as the story connected with Nehru is fabricated and untrue, based on the simple fact that the drama Abhigyan Shakuntalam was translated and converted into a ballet and presented to the people of Russia by composer Sergey Balasanian, in 1963 in the town of Riga, Russia. Nehru had visited Russia in 1955. The story about initiating the construction and glorification of Kanvashram by Nehru also cannot be true, as Nehru was against reconstruction and glorification of any Hindu religious site. Further, a well thought out conspiracy was hatched by Nehru to distort the history of this nation. Corrupted and falsified history of this nation was prepared and presented through various text books, introduced in schools and colleges. The task of distorting the history of this nation was achieved with the active support of six successive Union Minister of Education, appointed by Nehru during his tenure from 1947 to 1964. They ensured that the true history of this nation remains buried under and inaccurate and misleading history taught to the students of this nation. They were unaware of the fact that truth has a way of emerging no matter how long it is suppressed or how deep it is buried.
