Dear Past Pupils of Goethals,
Greetings from School !
We are nearly at the end of the Easter Holidays, which commenced on the 16th April after the Annual School Sports and Drill Display at which Bro.M.R.Beddoe, who was celebrating his Golden Jubilee as a Christian Brother, had presided as Chief Guest. We were particularly proud to have held the sports in spite of the Darjeeling District going to the polls the day after (17th) and a number of our senior staff being taken off on election duty. However, true to our motto, we showed that we could "do all things well" in trying circumstances and the drills and sports were very well attended by parents, well-wishers and past pupils (all chairs taken and all snack packets given out !). It seemed to me, that despite the traffic problems with the election vehicles parked on our campus, which caused traffic jams etc., a good time was had by all, especially the students and Bro.Beddoe.
You might be aware of the school having set up a new dining room and kitchen for the students, over the last winter holidays. The dining room is new, but unfortunately the furniture is old ! Would it be possible for you to help us with the purchase of new furniture ?
We need 46 dining tables (stainless steel, using 10mm MS sheet at the bottom, with S.S. steel on the top, 2 nos 75mm pipe as vertical support, with plywood and granite top. size : L 6ft x B 2.5ft x H 2.5ft. costing Rs.13,000 + 14.5% VAT + Transportation charges)
We need 92 benches (6ft x 10in x 18in, stainless steel, using 25mm x 25mm square pipe with wooden top. Cost Rs/4500 + 14.5% VAT + Transportation charges)
We need 92 stools (12in diameter, 18in ht, stainless steel frame, wooden seat. Cost Rs.1300 + 14.5% VAT + Transportation charges).
The total outlay is Rs.13,80,000 (approx.)
I was wondering if it would be possible for individual past pupils to sponsor eith a table (Rs.16,000) or a bench (Rs.5500) or a stool (Rs.1500) or a combination as the means and circumstances permit.
Contributions may be made directly to the school account using the following band details (however, please send me an e-mail at [email protected], so we do not miss out on your contribution and are able to get back to you and confirm receipt and thanks for your contribution):

Your assistance in this matter would be a great help.
We are in the process of getting the drawings done for a new structure to replace the building connecting the main building with the present Boarding building and which was significantly affected in the last earthquake we had here in 2010. The proposed new building would include
1.On the Ground Floor : Under-croft, canteen, Managers Office, Kitchen Store, extension to kitchen
2.On the first Floor : Higher Secondary Classrooms (we propose the Humanities Stream in 2015, in addition to the present Science & Commerce Streams).
3.On the 2nd Floor : The Senior Dormitory (to accommodate about 180 beds) + night toilets.
4.4th & 5th Floors : Residential Staff accommodation.
The proposed Building would be the same height as the present Boarding building and extend beyond. Architects and Engineers are due to visit and investigate and hold discussions on the 22nd April. With the expected cost of the building, the school, for a third running, would have to request funds from the other Brothers Schools in the country. Those schools have been very generous over the last two years and thanks to them we have the developments we see.
In the meantime, we continue to make less significant additions to school - we are n the process of setting up a new toilet block beyond the toilet block opposite the classroom building. We are also overhauling our wiring which has been old and very unprofessionally put up, piecemeal over so many years.
I have faith the past pupils who have shown their deep affection for the school by their frequent visits and interest would now partner the school in the developments needed to lead the school towards fulfilling its role in the next 50 years. We hope that when it comes to celebrating the 125 years of school we will have a school enabled to fulfill its responsibility to future generations of students.
I thank you, in advance for your generosity and support,
Bro.E.L.Miranda.c.f.c.
Principal,
