Taxi Driver from Dooars Stabbed in Tawang After Altercation; Accused Arrested

A 36-year-old taxi driver, Akash Lama from Jalpaiguri district, who had been living in Tawang for several years, reportedly lost his life after being stabbed during a heated altercation in the Nehru Market area on May 4.

Reports state that both the victim and the accused, Pema Wangchu (25), were taxi drivers and known to each other for years.

Following the incident, police acted swiftly and arrested the accused within hours.

All international borders connecting Jalpaiguri district with Bhutan and Bangladesh will remain temporarily sealed from 6:00 AM on May 3, 2026, until completion of vote counting for the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026.

During this period, general movement of people and vehicles will be strictly restricted. However, exemptions are allowed for medical emergencies entering India, tourists with valid documents, and vehicles carrying essential or perishable goods after proper checking.
