The Nishi (Nyishi) Tribe is one of the prominent indigenous tribes of India and the largest among the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. Part of the ancient Asian tribal communities of the Eastern Himalayas, the Nishi people primarily inhabit regions of Papum Pare, Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, East Kameng, and Kurung Kumey.

They traditionally follow the Donyi Polo (Sun–Moon) faith, which reflects a deep spiritual connection with nature, forests, rivers, and wildlife. The Nishi community is well known for its vibrant cultural identity, especially the Nyokum Yullo festival, celebrated to seek harmony, prosperity, and environmental balance.With livelihoods based on sustainable agriculture, forest resources, hunting traditions, and handicrafts, the Nishi tribe represents the living heritage of Arunachal tribes, indigenous communities of Northeast India, and the broader narrative of tribes of India and Asian indigenous cultures.
