Planning a trip to the Lion City? Singapore is one of the easiest, safest, and most stunning places to travel—if you know the rules and local hacks. Here is everything you need to know in one ultimate cheat sheet!
1. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• SG Arrival Card: Free and mandatory! Submit it online within 3 days prior to arrival.
• Passport valid for at least 6 months.
• Check if your country requires an e-visa before booking.
2. GETTING AROUND (MRT)
• Skip buying tourist transit cards! Simply tap in and out using your contactless Visa/Mastercard, Apple Pay, or Google Wallet on the MRT and public buses.
• MRT lines cover 95% of tourist spots, are super punctual, and run until late midnight.
3. WEATHER & WHAT TO PACK
• Expect hot and humid weather year-round (~30°C to 34°C / 86°F–93°F) with sudden afternoon showers.
• Must-packs: Breathable clothing, walking shoes, compact umbrella, sunscreen, and a light jacket/cardigan (indoor air conditioning in malls and transit is freezing).

4. RULES & LOCAL ETIQUETTE
• No Chewing Gum: Importing or selling gum is banned.
• MRT Fines: No eating or drinking (even water!) on trains or platform areas. Fines start at $500+.
• The “Chope” Culture: If you see a pack of tissues or an umbrella on a table at a hawker center, that table is claimed!
• Escalator Rule: Stand on the left, walk on the right.
5. SMART SAVINGS & TIPPING
• Tipping: Not required or expected.
• Food: Eat at Hawker Centers (Lau Pa Sat, Maxwell, Chinatown Complex)
• Water: Tap water is 100% safe to drink—bring a refillable bottle!
