Onam 2026 sarà celebrato in Kerala mercoledì 26 Agosto 2026. Questo giorno è Thiruvonam, il giorno principale di Onam. Il primo Onam cade martedì 25 agosto 2026, seguito dal terzo Onam il 27 agosto e dal quarto Onam il 28 agosto 2026.
Onam è la festa del raccolto più famosa del Kerala e viene celebrata durante il mese di Chingam del calendario Malayalam. La festa inizia con Atham e raggiunge il suo culmine con il giorno di Thiruvonam.
CURIOSITA': "Pookalam - Il tappeto di fiori"
Il Pookalam è uno degli elementi più riconoscibili di Onam. Un Pookalam è un disegno circolare realizzato con fiori freschi. Le famiglie solitamente ne creano uno ogni giorno, aggiungendo strati e colori man mano che la festa si avvicina. I disegni iniziano relativamente piccoli e diventano più grandi e dettagliati verso la fine della giornata. Diversi tipi di fiori possono essere disposti per creare disegni, forme e motivi tradizionali.
La decorazione viene preparata per dare il benvenuto a Re Mahabali. Inoltre, riunisce i membri della famiglia e le comunità, poiché spesso le persone lavorano collettivamente a disegni più grandi.
In tutto il Kerala vengono organizzate anche gare di Pookalam nelle scuole, negli uffici e negli spazi pubblici, aggiungendo un elemento creativo e competitivo alle celebrazioni.

TRIVIA: "Pookalam - The Flower Carpet"
The Pookalam is one of the most recognizable elements of Onam. A Pookalam is a circular design made with fresh flowers. Families typically create one every day, adding layers and colors as the festival approaches. The designs begin relatively small and become larger and more detailed toward the end of the day. Different types of flowers may be arranged to create traditional designs, shapes, and motifs.
The decoration is prepared to welcome King Mahabali. It also brings family members and communities together, as people often work collectively on larger designs.
Pookalam competitions are also held throughout Kerala in schools, offices, and public spaces, adding a creative and competitive element to the celebrations.
