Our Accessible Packaging in India Makes Eating McDonald’s a More Inclusive Experience
At McDonald’s, our mission is simple: to make delicious, feel-good moments easy for everyone. A few months ago, in western and southern India, we partnered with valued suppliers and partners to make eating McDonald’s food easier for people with disabilities.
According to India’s most recent Census report, more than 21 million people across the country have a disability. Approximately 28% of these people have disabilities related to movement.
Until recently, the packaging we used in our restaurants in western and southern India required customers to use both of their hands to enjoy our delicious food. This made it difficult for some people with upper-limb disabilities to eat in our restaurants.
Knowing this, in late September 2020, we tasked HAVI, who worked with Parksons Packaging, to develop packaging that enabled our food to be eaten using only one hand. By International Day of People with Disabilities on December 3, HAVI had delivered – and now, our new packaging is available in McDonald’s restaurants across western and southern India.
We’re grateful we could come together with HAVI to help ensure everyone’s McDonald’s experience is delicious and enjoyable. Inclusivity is one of our cherished values – and it’s something we’re working toward every day.
