Indian Passport Ranks 83rd In The World; Climbs Up 7 Places From 2021 Rankings…

While the travel industry continues to stay on hold due to the rising Covid-19 cases in India and across the world, Indian Passport has gotten stronger since 2021.

The Indian Passport ranks 83rd in the Henley Passport Index after it climbed up 7 positions in 2021, from its earlier 90th ranking. The Henley Passport Index collects data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to reveal the average number of countries a passport holder of a particular country can visit.

According to the Henley Passport Index, the strongest passports in the world belong to Japan and Singapore. With both these passports, travellers can visit a whopping 192 destinations without a prior visa. But this number doesn’t involve the current Covid-19 travel restrictions. In a report by Times Of India, this index reveals that any individual can visit an average number of 107 countries without a prior visa. Passport holders from countries like Japan, Singapore and the USA can visit 180 countries on the same parameter….!

📍 Nine Arch Bridge, Srilanka🌉

Commissioned under the British in the year 1921, the Nine Arch Bridge stands proudly, a testament to the engineering and architectural brilliance of the early 20th century. Ideally placed between the Ella and Demodara railway station, those choosing to walk along the bridge will be presented with scenes of rolling hills and dense jungle to delight in.

The Nine Arch Bridge, also known as the ‘Bridge in the Sky’ was constructed by connecting two bog mountains when constructing the Badulla – Colombo railway. This bridge is 300 feet in length, 25 feet in width and 80-100 feet in height. It is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. The Bridge can be reached by travelling 2km on Gotuwala road starting from Halpe Textile centre in Badulla Bandarawela road. The surrounding area has seen a steady increase in tourism due to the bridge’s architectural ingenuity and the profuse greenery in the nearby hillsides.

Arguably the best time to venture out would be during when the locomotives come barrelling along and thus it is advisable to check on the train schedule in advance. However, be sure to carry your trusty cam with you so that you might capture every moment that unravels before you….!

Sri Lanka is the world’s fourth-largest producer of tea and in Nuwara Eliya tea is the very core of the local lives. Tea production is one of the main sources of foreign exchange for Sri Lanka and it employs, directly or indirectly, over 1 million people.

The Nuwara Eliya tea factory that we visited is called Damro Labookellie Tea Centre (former Mackwoods) and is the oldest tea centre in Sri Lanka. Their tea bushes are replanted every 100 years on over 5,000 hectares of lush tea plantations. In this tea factory, they make white and black tea, while the green tea is processed in another tea factory and then sent to Damro. All the different kinds of teas have different processes of making and you will be able to learn all about these processes if you do a tea factory tour.

The factory tour at Damro is free of charge and ends with delicious tea and cake tasting at the Damro Tea Lounge. While the tour and tea are free, the cake tasting has a small charge and the main profit from the tour comes from tourists buying the tea at the gift shop.

The factory tour will take you through the process of tea plucking, withering (takes out the moisture), rolling, fermentation, firing and sorting/grading.

After you’re done with the tea factory tour and the tea and cake tasting, head over across the estate and wander around the plantations. Take a look at the leaves up close and walk to the ladies working the fields and observe how fast and meticulous they do the picking!
