okay I need to talk about Garbett because nobody warned me and I feel like I owe it to the internet to be honest about what happened.
I booked it on impulse. Thursday night, doom scrolling, saw a reel, DMed, paid, done.
Spent Friday lowkey panicking. didn’t know anyone going. almost cancelled twice.
got to CSMT at 11 PM. found the group. everyone looked equally terrified and excited. did a little introduction round. forgot everyone’s names immediately. started walking anyway.
crossing that dam at 2 AM in complete silence with a torch and eleven strangers — genuinely one of the most cinematic moments of my life. felt like a movie I hadn’t seen yet.
the climb is hard. not going to lie. my legs were done by 4 AM. there’s a patch through the jungle where it gets steep and your mind goes quiet and all you can hear is breathing — yours and everyone else’s.
the guide just keeps moving. calm. like he’s done this a thousand times. because he has. and that somehow makes you trust the trail.
reached the plateau at 5:30 AM.
then the sun came up.
I don’t have words for it. which is saying something because I’m literally writing an essay right now.
someone made Maggi.
we sat there — ten strangers who were now somehow not strangers — eating Maggi at 6 AM on a plateau above Mumbai watching the Sahyadris turn golden and nobody said anything for a while because nothing needed to be said.
on the train back we had a new group chat.
by Sunday evening we’d already picked the next trek.
I went for the sunrise.
I found my people.
I came back different. quietly, but definitely different.
